Inflation Unexpectedly Fell Last Month, But Tariffs Still Loom

In an unexpected turn, inflation cooled to a five-month low last month, with the headline CPI for March rising 2.4% annually, lower than projected at 2.6%.
CORE CPI, excluding food and energy, also declined to 2.8% year over year. Despite this positive news, tariffs remain a concern, and renewed trade war fears quickly overshadowed any inflation optimism. US equities were initially steady but soon gave way to these fears.
